The Federal Government has taken a significant step towards gender inclusivity by allocating a 35% recruitment slot for women in the ongoing hiring process for federal fire service operatives. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through his official X, formerly Twitter handle on Friday, as he provided updates on the recruitment exercise for the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Service Board.
As the Chairman of the Board, Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the decision to reserve 35% of the recruitment slots for women is in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s #RenewedHope agenda, aiming to enhance women’s participation in critical sectors. This strategic move is part of the government’s commitment to fostering diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for women in various areas, particularly within agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
In his statement, Tunji-Ojo stated, “Today (Friday), as the Chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I approved the allocation of a substantial 35 per cent recruitment slot for women into agencies under the Ministry of Interior, beginning from the ongoing recruitment into the Federal Fire Service. This strategic decision aligns with the #RenewedHope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) to elevate women’s participation in crucial sectors to at least 35 per cent.”
The recruitment process, which commenced on December 27th of the previous year, reflects the government’s commitment to creating a more inclusive workforce and promoting gender diversity in key areas of public service.
