Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has given his approval for the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim-Yakasai as the new Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa. The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Office of the Secretary to the Government, Ismaila Dutse.
The statement highlighted that the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor followed recommendations from the university’s Governing Council, as stipulated by the institution’s governing laws. Prof. Yakasai, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Departmental Quality Assurance Committee at Bayero University Kano (BUK), has been appointed to lead Sule Lamido University.
The statement provided details about Prof. Yakasai’s academic background and achievements, stating, “The new VC, who holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, has teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels, with significant quality supervision and valuable inter-disciplinary collaboration. He has a strong track record of research as evidenced by the quality of his papers in peer-reviewed journals. Besides his core area of education, he has also researched the Strategies for Human Resource Management in Local Government Administration.”
Furthermore, the statement highlighted Prof. Yakasai’s contributions to academic leadership and community service, noting that he has previously served as the Head of Department, Deputy Dean of the Student Affairs Department, and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Bayero University Kano.
Born in Garun Gabas, Malam Madori Local Government Area in 1960, Prof. Yakasai obtained his first degree from BUK in 1986 and subsequently earned an M.Ed. (Educational Psychology) in 1991 and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology in 2000 from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He has been a member of the academic staff at Bayero University since 1991, progressively advancing in his career.
The statement concluded by announcing that Prof. Yakasai officially assumed the role of Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University on December 5, 2023.
