Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is set to don the colors of Inter Miami for the 2024 season, as announced by the Major League Soccer (MLS) club on Friday. Suarez, an illustrious footballer with stints at Barcelona, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Ajax, will be reuniting with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami.
Turning 37 next month, Suarez brings a wealth of experience, having won four La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona, as well as league titles with Ajax and Atletico Madrid. His addition to the Inter Miami squad adds further firepower to a team that already boasts a lineup of accomplished players.
Expressing his excitement about the new challenge, Suarez said, “I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality.” Suarez, who was named Best Player and Best Striker in the Brazilian league last season with Gremio, is optimistic about the team’s shared ambition.
David Beckham, former England and Manchester United star and co-owner of Inter Miami, expressed delight at securing Suarez’s services. “We’re delighted to have a player of Luis’ quality and passion for the game join our club. He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation, and we look forward to seeing him take to the field.”
Suarez’s prolific career includes winning the Copa America crown with Uruguay in 2011. Inter Miami’s managing owner, Jorge Mas, welcomed the addition of the world-class striker, stating, “Luis is a fierce competitor whose winning drive embodies what we want out of our players.”
Having netted 195 goals and provided 113 assists in 283 matches for Barcelona, Suarez’s goal-scoring prowess will be a valuable asset for Inter Miami as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
