The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party at the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has arrived in Kogi state for the mega rally of the party ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
Announcing his arrival via his official X handle, Atiku, who once served as the country’s vice president, detailed that he was in Kogi to support his party’s governorship candidate, Dino Melaye.
“My delegation and that of the @OfficialPDPNig, are live at the residence of Sen. Tunde Ogbeha for the grand-rally of Sen. Dino Melaye, the PDP governorship candidate in Saturday’s election,” a post by Atiku read.
On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will conduct the off-cycle governorship election in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states.
Melaye, the candidate of the PDP at the Kogi state governorship polls, has been tipped as one of the favourite candidates to emerge as the governor of Kogi state.
Bellnews recalls that the Labour Party had collapsed its structure, declaring support for PDP’s gubernatorial Dino Melaye. The development further dazed a heavy blow on the aspirations of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ahmed Ododo.
Already, there are reports of disagreements in the ruling party’s camp as aggrieved party members have declared support for the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Leke Abejide accusing Governor Yahaya Bello of imposing his candidate on the party.
