Dr. Bartholomew Okorochukwu is a Seasoned Medical Practitioner, Astute Administrator, Prolific Writer and Celebrated Team Player.
He is a former Commissioner for Health in Imo State, former commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Imo state and currently the Commissioner for Health Insurance in the State.
Born on the 21st of April 1967, he had his early education at the Sacred Heart Primary School Mile 1 Diobu Portharcourt, Rivers State from 1974 to 1979 and completed his primary school education at State School 2 Sangana St. Mile 2,,Diobu Portharcourt,Rivers State from 1979 to 1980 . Secondary education at Boys Secondary School Eziachi, Orlu,Imo State from 1980 to 1985.
He thereafter proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Portharcourt from 1985 to 1988 for his Advance Level training.
He then proceeded to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife where he studied Medicine and graduated in April 1996.
Had his Housemanship training at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu (UNTH) from 1996 to 1997.
He Worked as a Medical Officer at Chumex hospital Nkpor and Nnediaso Hospital Ihiala. Had his Residency Training at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri,Imo State from 2000 to 2006.
Appointed a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2007. Rose in rank and served as Head of Department between 2016 and 2020.
He was elected Head of Clinical Services FMC Owerri in 2020.
He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and Fellow International College of Surgeons.
He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Health. Dr. Bartholomew Okorochukwu has a wealth of experience in the Medical profession spanning almost three decades.
As a prolific Writer, he has written many Articles, Books and Literary Presentations in the Medical field at different fora within and outside the country.
An Administrator of no mean order, his leadership qualities started manifesting at a very tender age when he became a Class Monitor in Primary School and House Captain in Secondary School.
As an Undergraduate, he was the Sports Director of the Obafemi Awolowo University Medical Students Association.
Assistant Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Medical Centre Owerri Imo State. Financial Secretary, Nigeria Medical Association, Owerri Zone from 2006 to 2008.
He was elected Chairman Owerri Zone, Nigeria Medical Association from 2008 to 2010 and eventually Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association Imo State from 2010 to 2012 and was meritoriously, elected the National 2nd Vice president of Nigeria Medical Association.
Served in Several National Committees of Nigerian Medical Association as Chairman. As the Commissioner for Health Imo State, he launched the Basic Provision Fund and Reaccreditation of Nursing and Midwifery at Aboh Mbaise and Awomama.
He also established the Staff Clinic at the Imo State Secretariat. He was a Member of the Imo State COVID 19 Task Force. Led the Imo State team to the National Council on Health conferences.
As Commissioner for health insurance, He has supervised the flag off of Access to Healthcare for the Basic Health care provision fund and formal Sector Health Insurance. Led the health team on Monitoring and evaluation of Basic Health Care provision fund in the whole of Orlu Zone, Training of Officers in charge of the primary health care centers in the 305 Electoral Wards in Imo State. A man of immense mental and intellectual acumen, Dr. Bartholomew Okorochukwu has over the years demonstrated a strong capacity to work under very challenging situations and get things done in an excellent manner.
His leadership sagacity and managerial perspicacity in the delivery of set goals and objectives can only be described as second to none.
