The Anambra State Police Command has issued a warning against the celebration of ‘Cult Day’ in the state on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

The directive was contained in a press release by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to him, rumours have been circulating about plans by cultists to observe their day on Sunday. He added that anyone apprehended in connection with this will face severe consequences.

In a press release, Ikenga cautioned hoteliers, bar proprietors, and managers of event and recreation centres to be vigilant and prevent such gatherings on their premises, warning of repercussions for non-compliance.

The release added, “Information received indicates that a group of criminally minded individuals, under the guise of Cult Day, have planned a celebration tomorrow, July 7, 2024.”

“This event is notorious for its violence and bloodshed. The police command advises these individuals or groups to immediately desist, as we are constitutionally mandated to safeguard lives and property and will not permit such elements to undermine the progress achieved in combating cult-related incidents. Offenders will be dealt with decisively.”

“The police and other security agencies remain steadfast, committed and dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the state at all times.”
