Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have launched a coordinated land and air assault against Boko Haram terrorists in Bita, Borno State, neutralising at least 60 insurgents in an intense overnight battle.
The operation took place in the early hours of Friday and involved combined forces under the 26 Task Force Brigade of Sector One.
According to reports by counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the engagement began around 1:09 a.m. when terrorists launched a surprise assault on the troops’ defensive positions.
The Nigerian military responded swiftly, calling in immediate support from the air component, including A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and the Dragon platform.
The ensuing firefight lasted until approximately 3:23 a.m., with heavy casualties recorded on the side of the insurgents. At least 60 terrorists were confirmed killed in the initial exchange, and two enemy gun trucks were destroyed by precision airstrikes.
“The battle is still ongoing with follow-up strikes targeting retreating terrorist groups. Additional two gun trucks have been confirmed destroyed as air platforms re-engaged the fleeing insurgents,” one military source told Zagazola.
Meanwhile, a senior military official speaking on the development said, “This operation marks one of the most decisive and devastating hits against ISWAP in recent months.”
