However, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Tuesday noted that it rescued no fewer than three persons from a collapsed building in Abuja.

The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have confirmed the rescue of three workers from a four-storey building in the densely populated Garki district.

The building located at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street, Garki, was said to have gone down at about 8:40pm on Monday.

However, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Tuesday noted that it rescued no fewer than three persons from a collapsed building in Abuja.

She explained that the command had alerted the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control whose personnel had since mobilised to the scene to rescue persons trapped in the building.

“The FCT Police Command hereby confirms that yesterday, July 1, 2024, at about 8:40pm, there was a building collapse at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street.

“In response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Benneth Igweh, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue. Three (3) victims were successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care.

“The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control have been drawn to the situation, and their personnel have taken charge of the area for robust management of the scene.

“Further developments will be appropriately communicated in due course,” she added.

This is coming days after a yet-to-be-confirmed number of workers were feared dead as a building at Nicholas Ukachukwu’s Praco Limited Estate located in Guzape, Abuja collapsed.
