Former Dino Melaye, ex-Senator representing Kogi West, has described former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a “fantastic man” but insisted that he does not have what it takes to unify Nigeria or become President.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Melaye acknowledged Obi’s qualities but said the timing is not right for his presidency.
“But let me even tell you, Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian. I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before, he is a fantastic person, but this is not his time to be President,” Melaye stated.
Peter Obi has repeatedly confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Melaye, who left the National Assembly and later contested the Kogi State gubernatorial election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lost to the incumbent governor, Ahmed Ododo.
